Glasgow University - Sir Charles Wilson Building

Further & Higher Education

Project Title: Glasgow University - Sir Charles Wilson Building

Hulley contact: Simmy Telfer

Originally built as the Hillhead Congregational Church in 1889, this project was designed to create a contemporary, high quality conference and lecture facility, with a main auditorium with raked seating for 300, and an 80-person seminar room together with associated support facilities.  The lower floor provides an 80 person seminar room that can be sub-divided by an acoustic wall allowing flexibility in format. The seminar rooms are similarly appointed with an integrated audio-visual system with links to the main auditorium.  The lower floor has been designed with a crisp contemporary edge, striking lighting, glazed screens and bold colours reflective of the upper floor. Disabled facilities have been incorporated to ensure access and use by all patrons through a lift, sanitary facilities, refuge points and audiovisual equipment to cope with all impairments. New building services have been installed, providing high levels of comfort and control with energy efficiency and sustainability.  Where possible, the design includes for future proofing through scope for addition and enhancement as technologies and demands change.
