University of Aberdeen Faculty of Education

Further & Higher Education

Project Title: University of Aberdeen Faculty of Education

Project Value: £9.5m

Hulley contact: Michael O'Donnell

The School of Education was established in December 2001, following the merger of the University of Aberdeen and Northern College of Education (Aberdeen Campus).  The School enjoys a broad portfolio of degree programmes with an international reputation with the full-time BEd (Hons) Primary, BEd (Hons) Music and the Postgraduate Certificates in both Primary and Secondary Education.   It also supports teachers and other professionals with a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered by distance learning. Hulley & Kirkwood designed the new retro-fit services during 03/04 after the existing building internal strip out had been completed.  A full refurbishment contract took place, with completion achieved on target and on budget by July 2005 in time for the new academic intake. New M&E services comprise the retro-fit of heating systems from the university district heating mains infrastructure, new chilled water systems to select departments, new mechanical supply & extract ventilation to select departments, with natural ventilation to other areas where possible.  New electrical power, lighting, fire alarms, IT and vertical transportation systems were also installed within extremely tight floor to ceiling constraints.
