Aberdeen University Powis Gate

Further & Higher Education

Project Title: Aberdeen University Powis Gate

Project Value: £0.8m

Hulley contact: Bruce Campbell

This building provided us with a challenge of having to provide a new modern design of building services whilst maintaining the period characteristics.  Lighting was provided by way of glass bowls with chain suspensions which allowed us to provide upward lighting.  These fittings also incorporated self contained emergency batteries so that dedicated emergency fittings did not have to be provided which would have been to the determent of the installation.  The majority of the existing radiators were reused after having been refurbished and pressure tested and the electricity mains were re-routed into the basement level to increase the workable office space.  Fire alarms were also provided with a remote monitoring facility to the University of Aberdeen central security office in the Taylor building and a full structured cabling system was provided to the all occupied parts of the building.  An annex to the rear of the building was also fully refurbishment and a prayer room with full wash facility was formed to the easterly portion of the annex.
