Aberdeen University Zoology Building

Further & Higher Education

Project Title: Aberdeen University Zoology Building

Project Value: £3.5m

Hulley contact: Ron Nolan

Aberdeen has a long tradition of research and teaching in Zoology.  Zoology Graduates can be found working in a wide variety of scientific and educational organisations at home and abroad.  Originally based in Marschal College, the Zoology Department and museum moved to their current location in Old Aberdeen in the 1970s and, in 2003, merged with the Departments of Agriculture & Forestry and Plant & Soil Science to form the School of Biological Sciences. Hulley & Kirkwood designed the new retro-fit services during 2004.  A full refurbishment contract was completed in June 2006 in time for the new academic intake.

New M&E services comprise the retro-fit of new chilled water systems to select departments, new mechanical supply & extract ventilation to select departments, with natural ventilation to other areas where possible and new specialist environmental control facilites for insect labs.  New electrical power, lighting, fire alarms and IT systems are also being installed within extremely tight floor to ceiling constraints.
