This Major New Build Development at Queens Quay Clydebank to provide some 17,500m2 Advanced Learning Accommodation is due for completion in May 2007.
The building embodies conventional Engineering Design practices ‘best suited’ to the Location, Architectural Design and a varied Academic Curriculum. The location of the building (on the main flight path of Glasgow International Airport), determined the design of a fully mechanically ventilated ‘sealed’ building envelope. However where possible the use of naturally assisted ventilation provision is adopted. The areas where this technique adopted have been limited to the main teaching classrooms, where, acoustic make up ventilators have been integrated into the building façade and augmented with extract ventilation to the rear of each classroom.
As part of the integration of the Building Services with the Architectural Design the façade and the naturally ventilated classrooms were simulated. Recommendations regarding the use of Passive Solar Shading and Glazing Types were made and integrated into the fabric.
The varied level of Building Services designed to meet Academic requirements, include but are not limited to; Specialist Vehicle Exhaust Systems, Specialist Dust Extraction Systems (Joinery & Brick workshops), Fume Extraction Systems, Paint Workshop Ventilation Systems (Welding), Welding Gas Systems, Compressed Air Systems, Laboratory Gas Systems.
