Project Title: London Nautical School
Client: London Nautical School
Project Value: £10m
Hulley contact: Gordon McInnes
The London Nautical School was founded in 1915 as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the “Titanic”. In 1990 it became one of the country’s first 11-18 Comprehensive Secondary Schools for Boys to be awarded grant maintained status. In September 1999, it became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth.
Hulley and Kirkwood were involved in the new extension, which incorporates a sports gymnasium with changing facilities and a separate exercise area. The upper floors provide education facilities including dedicated music rooms. A roof relaxation area is also provided with cafeteria for Sixth Form students. Major refurbishment and remodelling was also planned for the existing buildings to maintain the high standard teaching facilities. Third party funding was received through a land sale from the school site. Schools For The Future funding has been applied for to upgrade the existing school.
