Westcotes Health Centre, part of Leicester LIFTCo, has won the award for Best Overall Design at the recent 2008 LIFT Awards.
Westcotes is a multi-use community hub incorporating a local practice, a health centre, dental suites, facilities for community nursing and health visiting, a pharmacy and audiology, phlebotomy and chiropody services, as well as public health promotion and community rooms.
The centre uses a unique configeration of light, ventilation and building volume based on a design which included intense consultation with health professionals, staff, patients and the local community to heighten patient experience. Roof lines are angled on different planes, while the use of different materials, textures and colours prevent a high wall block appearance. Full, deep plan light and ventilation wells reduce the consumption of energy making it a greener building.
