World class Sports Academy for Lanarkshire

09.04.07

An exciting new mixed-use complex, consisting of a state-of-the-art sports campus, country club and health spa, alongside prestigious residential accommodation, is to be developed in the heart of Lanarkshire.

The £80m development, situated on the former site of Craighead House in Hamilton, consists of a high tech arena building with full sized indoor pitch and facilities, fully equipped gymnasium, saunas, hydroptherapy pool, as well as an education suite with viewing galleries, administration facilities and restaurant.  Sitting alongside the arena building are two full sized outdoor floodlit football training pitches, complimented by a dedicated goalkeepers training area and outdoor cardiovascular training area.

The residential development, which has been designed to retain as many original ‘classical country house’ features, consists of 56 plots of detached residential accommodation varying from 400m2 to 600m2.  These luxury dwellings will sit alongside 132 smaller apartments overlooking the landscape and country club, with provision for car parking at a subterranean level.

Hulley & Kirkwood have been appointed design engineers by G5 Architecture and Design for the project due to their expertise with working on Coventry’s new stadium complex, Ricoh Stadium and Arena, as well as Hampden Park – Scotland’s ‘Field of Dreams.  H&K also have an extensive residential portfolio working on projects such as the exclusive Quartermile development in Edinburgh and the ultra-modern Abito developments in NW England.

Stephen McKinlay, Director at Hulley & Kirkwood, comments;

“Hulley & Kirkwood were delighted to be chosen as Design Engineers for this exciting project.  The academy will ensure the development of future generations of sporting talent and will bring Scottish Sport into the 21st Century.”
