EPC of the Year’ for the Border Schools EPCs

18.11.09

We are delighted to have been short-listed for ‘EPC of the Year’ for our Borders Schools PPP project at the CIBSE Low Carbon Performance Awards 2010.

Borders Schools, being hailed as ‘the most environmentally advanced schools in Scotland’, consists of three new-build high schools - Earlston, Eyemouth and Berwickshire.   All three schools have obtained an excellent ‘A’ status Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). Having issued circulars to all 32 Scottish District Councils, current evidence and responses suggest that the Borders Schools are the first in Scotland to receive ‘A’ rated EPCs.

A pre-construction assessment showed that the buildings were capable of achieving a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ based on credits achieved across eight areas – management, health & wellbeing, energy, transport, water, materials & waste, land use and ecology & pollution. Each building was air pressure tested to identify areas of heat escape and the results exceeded the requirements of the building regulations by 39%.

The awards night is taking place on Wednesday 3rd February 2010 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London so watch this space…..
