Hulley & Kirkwood have been appointed as M&E Services Designers supported by Fire Engineering Consultants, Jeremy Gardener Associates, for the provision of new training facilities for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue.
The new development, with an approximate value of £30m, will replace the current centre at Cowcaddens in Glasgow City Centre which no longer meets the standard of today’s extensive fire and rescue training requirements.
The new state-of-the-art training centre will comprise an AcademicBuilding and a Practical Zone to facilitate best practice training for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue services.
The Academic Building provides a classroom-based learning environment including a lecture theatre and conference facilities, a bespoke assessment and development centre, an Incident Command Training Suite and catering facilities.
The Practical Zone provides hands-on training for Fire and Rescue personnel with realistic practical training facilities; these include a Residential Area, an Industrial Area and a Transport Area including sections of motorway and railway facilities.
Donald Wood, Director at Hulleys, say’s; “We are delighted to have been appointed as M&E designers for such an important development which ultimately helps Strathclyde Fire and Rescue provide their service to the community. When completed the new Training Centre will be the most advanced of its kind in the UK.”
The initial 3 phases of the project are programmed to reach completion in 2012.
