White River Place, St Austell - 2009 BREEAM Retail Award
White River Place was awarded with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating – only the second retail development to ever receive such an accolade recently. The £75m development in St Austell, Cornwall, was predicted to receive a rating of ‘Very Good’ but instead achieved a score of 74.16% and its rating of ‘Excellent’.
The scheme was praised for using locally sourced materials and a high content of recycled material, very high levels of insulation, minimised air and water pollution, and for incorporating low energy technologies such as rain water harvesting systems. A substantial part of the scheme has a ‘living roof’ made from sedum to reflect St Austell’s position amongst rolling hills and its close proximity to the Eden Project.
