Project Title: Lexmark Phase 2, Print Cartridge Manufacturing Plant
Client: Lexmark
Project Value: £10m
Hulley contact: Jim Costello
After the Feasibility and Outline Design for the project was completed, a field trip to Lexmark USA in Lexington Kentucky by the Design Team allowed both Client and Design Team to fully understand the manufacturing process involved and define a clear Design Brief for the proposed new Phase 2 Plant at Rosyth, Scotland.
Scheme Design was then completed within six weeks on return, including ‘frozen’ building layouts with associated cost plan. The Management Contractor was identified and appointed by the Design Team, with an overall Clean Room 1 Completion agreed and programmed.
Following successful commissioning and validation of the highly complex and varied Mechanical and Electrical Process Systems (Solvent Transfer, DI Water, Clean Dry Air, Vacuum, etc.) for Clean Room 1, Lexmark brought forward procurement of Clean Room 2 to meet manufacturing demand. Clean Room 2 was completed ahead of schedule and within budgetary constraints.
The demanding Design and Construction Programme required constant liaison between Designers and Contractors involving a large commitment to on-site activities by Hulley & Kirkwood, which resulted in a very successful Project Partnership.
