Project Title: Joint Services Command & Staff College
Client: Ministry of Defence
Project Value: £100m
Hulley contact: Gordon McInnes
The Project Objectives were to provide a purpose built Joint Services Command and Staff College at the existing Royal Military College of Science Site in Shrivenham. The unit was to provide a Teaching, Function, Residential Hotel and Married Living Quarters for Officers. Operational staff from the Three Home Services and Overseas attend training courses for Junior and Higher Command, varying in duration from between 3 months to 2 years.
Procured under the Private Finance Initiative, the facility will be maintained and operated by the Consortium for a period of 30 years. Hulley & Kirkwood worked closely with the Consortium to ensure an efficient, easily maintainable scheme was provided which offered best value for money.
Completed on programme, the facility provides world class Teaching Accommodation for all Service Personnel within a self-contained environment. The facilities provided to support the main Teaching Role were extensive including dining for 700, lecturing facilities up to 450 people, gymnasium, outdoor sports facilities and an amalgamation of the Services libraries into one communal repository.
The audio visual system provided within the lecture theatres is capable of relaying images and sound to other lecture theatres, Syndicate Rooms and to remote facilities allowing very large scale video conferencing around the world.
