Project Title: BT Atlantic Quay
Client: British Telecom
Project Value: £24m
Hulley contact: Bill Kilpatrick
British Telecom’s new 29,000m² Headquarters Building for West Central Scotland is located on the Clyde River frontage at the Broomielaw in Glasgow. The six storey building encompasses a large open atrium on all floors, with the exception of the top floor, a first for this configuration in Glasgow. The open Atrium necessitated the need for a comprehensive fire engineering appraisal and Hulley & Kirkwood were intimately involved in the design for this.
Extensive computer simulations were carried out to ascertain the thermal performance within the Atrium space, together with other Modelling Studies to determine the thermal and glare exposure of the building on its riverside site.
Hulley & Kirkwood’s involvement was in the Shell and Core provision of the building which necessitated direct liaison with BT in order that the Developer’s Building remained responsive to the needs of the Occupier. The Building was delivered to BT in January 1999 and achieved the twin
goals of being on time and within budget.
