Kelvingrove Museum

Kelvingrove Museum - Scottish Style Awards (2006), Historic Scotland’s Award for Architecture (2006)

Glasgow's Kelvingrove, the most visited museum outside London, reopened to the public after a 3-year refurbishment project. Work was carried out on the building, which is over a century old, to both the structure and fabric including works to the roof, maintaining the internal drainpipes and restoration work in the interior. Extensive excavation work carried out in the basement has created an extra 1,789 meters of space. This has formed a new entrance to the museum at ground level as well as a shop, café, restaurant and a new lecture theatre. Overall there’s 35% more floor space and a total of 8,000 exhibits – 3,000 more than previously to continue to ensure that the art gallery and museum delights its visitors for future generations to come.
